Tokyo Novelle was published by Cantz in 1997 to accompany Nobuyoshi Araki’s exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg in Germany. The book comprises 160 pages and features 138 black-and-white photographs, offering a dense and immersive overview of Araki’s universe. Conceived as an exhibition showpiece, Tokyo Novelle functions as a fragmented narrative of Tokyo, portrait of the city as a space of desire, alienation, and spectacle.
